Store-One Guide to Wireless / Cordless Headsets

Wireless Cordless Headsets from Plantronics and Jabra GN Netcom

Headsets have been around for a very long time. I think I recall seeing photos of etchings on cave walls that depicted primitive telemarketers using headsets. Of course that was the old wired kind. Even wireless headsets have been in use for quite some time now. The early versions, and many sold today, involve a beltpack. A beltpack is a small device about the size of a transistor radio which contains the wireless electronics technology and connects by wire to the headset you use. Completely wireless headsets, with no beltpacks or wires were first introduced in 2003 by GN Netcom Jabra.

We are not aiming to provide a headset clinic to help you make sick headsets well. Although some information provided here might help you in that quest. We want to give you a resource full of information on how headsets work, how they connect to your phone system, some opinions and comments from us and our customers and site visitors ... the kind of information you can use to help make a decision on which headset is the best choice for your needs and your telephone environment.

INFORMATION ABOUT AND GUIDE TO WIRELESS HEADSET SYSTEMS
Following are some of the issues that should be considered when purchasing a wireless or cordless headset, as well as a discussion of some of the questions that frequently arise from customers who are considering a purchase of a wireless headset.

How does a Wireless Headset connect to my telephone system?

WHICH HEADSET BRAND OR MANUFACTURER SHOULD YOU BUY?
One of the questions we are frequently asked is which is the best or most popular manufacturer of telephone headsets. Well, the two 800-pound gorillas in the phone headset field are Plantronics and GN Netcom, which has adopted the Jabra name for its complete line of corded, cordless, and wireless headset and headphone products. Throw in Motorola and you probably have 95+% of all the headsets sold. We're not trying to knock any other headset manufacturer, but if you are going to spend good money on a headset, you might as well get one from one of the leaders in the industry. A manufacturer that's been around delivering quality products for a long time. And will continue to be around for a long time to support the product you purchase. By and large, you can't go wrong buying a headset from Plantronics, GN Netcom Jabra, and Motorola.

WHICH TYPE OF HEADSET SHOULD YOU BUY?
From a very broad perspective there are two types of headsets, corded headsets and cordless headsets or wireless headsets. We're going to focus here on the area of cordless or wireless telephone headsets because the majority of headsets sold today are of the wireless persuasion.
